Interview with Tonya Kappes

tonyakappes-authorphotoWe are kicking off the Strung Out to Die Book Tour with Tonya Kappes, with an interview between guest blogger, Laura, and author of Strung Out to Die, Tonya Kappes.

What can you tell our readers about your new book Strung out to Die?

This is such a fun series! I had so much fun playing around with the Divorced Divas who are five woman, ranging in ages from 19-90), and they have formed a self help group in the local bead store, The Beaded Dragonfly. They talk about all the ways to kill off their exes, who are still in their lives. BUT when someone does show up dead on the bead floor and one of the Divas is accused of the murder, they all become sleuths to figure out who is framing one of them.

Strung Out To Die is a humorous story about friendship, love, and murder!

Where did the inspiration come from for this book?

Well. . .I’m divorced and boy have I had many thoughts on how to kill the ex (just joking about the killing part!) and I have talked to so many divorced woman. I’ve even been to one of those self help groups, not to paint divorce in a humorous light, but when a group of scorned women get together and get started. . .well, I had to write about a group like them! They are a little clan that understands what each one is going through and have each other’s back.

This is your first book, so what plans do you have for another?

There are five planned novels at this point. Each novel is going to be based on a different Diva.

What is your writing background?

I have twelve published novels and a non-fiction books as well. I teach various writing courses for authors all over the United States.

Which writers have influenced you most in your writing life?

I’d have to say Jane Porter. I was a reader first and since we have become friends. When she provided me with a cover quote for my novel, Carpe Bead ‘em, my dream had come true!

But what I’ve learn most from Jane is how good she treats her readers. I have made every effort possible to be there for my readers as my career has taken off.

Who do you most love to read and why?

I’m going to have to plead the fifth on this one! I have so many writer friends that it would be impossible to pick.

strung-outWhat is next for you?

I declared 2012 the year to connect with my readers. I started my STREET TEAM over a year ago and have made those connections. This year I will be traveling all over the US to meet them. AND I have a super secret project with a few other authors that will blow our reader’s minds. I can’t disclose that now ;) but soon!

Thank you Laura and Tonya!
